so if you haven't been watching me on Facebook, I am training to do the MS150 in April, that is a 180 mile bike ride from Houston to Austin.
I biked today 26 miles. Holy crap I was f'ing hungry. I litterly licked my plate clean lol. Was a goregous day for a bike ride though. A real treat. And I have the tan outline of my mp3 player armband on my arm from the sun hahah.

Riding works your system very well, only thing it does not do is give you needed impact for added bone strength. If you want to keep up on the riding after your event try adding in a day of off road riding. Does not have to be high end, go for broke X games mountain biking, but a nice ride that gives you some bounce in your bones helps round out your full body training for overall health. You do not have to buy a mountain bike just for every once in a while riding, there are lots of places that have trails and bikes to rent. It is a lot of fun, works your cardio a lot harder as well, so you get the mix of endurance training on the road rides and speed/boost training off road.
This is also great for your diabetes as well, burning lots of energy and making use of the carbs in your system for fuel. Eating after though is so important, if you can make sure to do so within two hours of exercise it makes the best use of the food you are taking in. Your body will need protein and carbs, there are some great books on bike diets (as in nutrition not diet diet) that should also cover those with diabetes as well. I used to eat a ton of carbs when I was riding everyday, dropped weight like crazy, but ate like a horse...will be happy to be back to feeling that good again soon.
..as you can tell I love riding
And yes, totally agree that it's a great routine for diabetics. Gladly I am no longer diabetic
